Description:
The Sloth Bear is a nocturnal and insectivorous species of bear native to the Indian subcontinent. It is unlike other bears as it has long shaggy fur which forms a mane around its neck, and has a specially adapted lower jaw to suck up insects from their nests. Its long claws are used to dig up termite mounds, but they also prevent the bears from climbing trees as well as other bears, so they also act as their primary defence along with the large canines in their mouth. Sloth Bears have been known to attack humans, but rarely become man-eaters.
